Heather L. Cady

Heather L. Cady served as a magistrate for the Clermont County Domestic Relations Court from 2021 - 2024. She has more than 25 years in public service. This includes over 20 years as a Butler County, Ohio, magistrate in both Common Pleas General Division and Probate. In addition to magistrate responsibilities in probate division, Heather also served as the court administrator.
Heather received her undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati by working several part-time positions and earning several academic scholarships. She is a graduate of the Robert H. McKinney School of Law and a graduate of the Supreme Court of Ohio Court Management Program. She is also certified as a mediator through the Ohio Supreme Court.
Heather started her legal career in the prosecutor’s office in Johnson County, Indiana, as a victim advocate. While attending law school in the evenings, she worked as a law clerk for Judge Cynthia Emkes of Superior Court II in Franklin, Indiana, and then clerked for Judge Keith M. Spaeth and Judge H.J. Bressler in Butler County, Ohio. After graduation, Heather became a magistrate for Judge Spaeth and assisted with the drug court program, presided over numerous arraignments, civil stalking protection orders, bench trials and jury trials. In 2013, Heather moved to private practice in Oxford, Ohio, for a couple years specializing in criminal, civil and probate matters. In 2015, Heather moved to probate court as the magistrate and court administrator for Judge Randy Rogers. She has conducted hundreds of hearings across all facets of Butler County Probate Court including adoptions, guardianships, adult protective services, abuse and dependency treatment, forced medication, estate administration, civil commitments for mental health, and elder abuse / neglect. As court administrator, she was responsible for the Probate Court’s million dollar budget, fourteen full time employees and seven part time employees, and oversaw the 70,000 filings received each year.
Heather has been a regular lecturer for the Ohio Judicial College, The Supreme Court of Ohio, The Ohio State Bar Association, the Butler County Bar Association and the Ohio Association of Magistrates. Heather has also lectured in the community and professional organizations including Miami University Office of Continuing Education, the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the Ohio Guardianship Association, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
Heather married Christopher Cady over 25 years ago and together they have two children, a sophomore at the University of Dayton and a 11th grader at Mount Notre Dame High School. The Cady’s are active members of the St. John Catholic Church in West Chester. Heather has also served as an early childhood development teacher at St. John’s, several committees at Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School, as well as numerous fundraisers and events. She is also a “sports mom” as both of her kids are involved in soccer, cross country, high school swim team, and track & field. Heather is dedicated to her family, community, and the legal profession.
